This Bang Bang Chicken Air Fryer Recipe brings crispy, juicy chicken tossed in a creamy, spicy, slightly sweet sauce—right to your dinner table in under 30 minutes. It’s a quick, crowd-pleasing recipe that’s perfect for game days, easy weeknight meals, or when you just need something fun and flavor-packed.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Chicken:

  • lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs, cut into 1-inch pieces

  • ½ cup buttermilk (or ½ cup milk + 1 tsp vinegar)

  • ½ cup cornstarch or all-purpose flour

  • ½ tsp garlic powder

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ¼ tsp black pepper

  • Olive oil spray or cooking spray (for air frying)

For the Bang Bang Sauce:

  • ½ cup mayonnaise

  • ¼ cup sweet chili sauce

  • 12 tbsp sriracha (adjust to your spice preference)

  • 1 tbsp honey (optional for extra sweetness)

  • 1 tsp rice vinegar or lemon juice

Optional Garnishes:

  • Chopped green onions

  • Toasted sesame seeds

  • Lime wedges

Instructions

  • Marinate Chicken: In a bowl, toss chicken with buttermilk and let sit for 10–15 minutes.

  • Prepare Coating: Mix cornstarch, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a shallow dish. Dredge marinated chicken pieces in this mixture, pressing lightly to coat.

  • Air Fry: Preheat air fryer to 400°F (200°C). Arrange chicken in a single layer in the basket. Spray lightly with oil. Cook for 10–12 minutes, shaking halfway through, until golden and cooked through.

  • Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, sriracha, honey (if using), and vinegar.

  • Toss and Serve: In a large bowl, toss crispy chicken with the Bang Bang sauce. Garnish with green onions or sesame seeds and serve hot!

Notes

  • Make it gluten-free by using cornstarch or gluten-free flour.

  • Reduce the sriracha for a milder version—great for kids!

  • To bake instead, cook on a parchment-lined baking sheet at 400°F for 20–25 minutes, flipping once.

  • Use Greek yogurt for a lighter, tangier sauce alternative.

  • Double the sauce if serving over rice or noodles!
