Description

This Breakfast Casserole features flaky biscuits, savory breakfast sausage, and creamy gravy, all topped with melted cheddar cheese. It’s an easy-to-make dish perfect for family brunches or cozy breakfasts, guaranteed to satisfy everyone at the table!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (16.3 oz) refrigerated biscuits
  • 1 pound breakfast sausage (spicy recommended)
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk (whole milk works best)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional, but highly recommended)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Open the can of refrigerated biscuits carefully, using a kitchen towel to cover your hand.
  3. Separate the biscuits and cut each one into quarters. Set aside in a large mixing bowl.
  4. In a large skillet over medium heat, add the breakfast sausage, breaking it up with a spatula as it cooks.
  5. Cook for about 5-7 minutes until browned and cooked through, stirring occasionally.
  6. Sprinkle the flour over the cooked sausage and stir to coat evenly.
  7. Gradually pour in the milk while stirring continuously until smooth and thickened (about 3-5 minutes).
  8. Add garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt. Stir well and let simmer for another minute or two.
  9. Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish and spread the quartered biscuits evenly across the bottom.
  10. Pour the sausage gravy mixture over the biscuits, spreading it out gently with a spatula.
  11. If using, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the top.
  12. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs and pour them evenly over the casserole.
  13. Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until biscuits are golden brown and the casserole is set.
  14. Check for doneness by inserting a toothpick in the center; it should come out clean.
  15. Remove from the oven and let cool for 5-10 minutes before cutting.
  16. Cut the casserole into squares (aim for 8-10 servings).
  17. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley and serve warm. Enjoy with a side of fresh fruit or a light salad.

Notes

  • For added nutrition, consider mixing in sautéed bell peppers or spinach with the sausage.
  • Adjust the seasoning to your taste, especially the salt and pepper.
