Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, cream together ½ cup of unsalted butter and ½ cup of brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add in 2 tablespoons of milk and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, mixing well.
- Gradually stir in 1 cup of all-purpose flour and ½ cup of chocolate chips.
- Once combined, set this cookie dough aside in the refrigerator to chill while you make the cake.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat ½ cup of unsalted butter and ½ cup of granulated sugar until creamy.
- Add in 2 eggs, one at a time, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, mixing thoroughly after each addition.
- In another bowl, whisk together 1 ½ cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, and ½ teaspoon of baking soda.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with ½ cup of milk, starting and ending with the flour mixture.
- Mix until just combined.
- Gently fold in 1 cup of chocolate chips.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- While the cakes are cooling, make the frosting.
- In a bowl, beat together 1 cup of unsalted butter until creamy.
- Gradually add 3 cups of powdered sugar, mixing well.
- Add in 2 tablespoons of milk and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, continuing to beat until light and fluffy.
- Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate.
- Spread a layer of frosting on top.
- Take the chilled cookie dough and crumble it over the frosting, making sure to keep some for decoration.
- Place the second cake layer on top and cover the entire cake with the remaining frosting.
- Decorate the top with any remaining cookie dough and extra chocolate chips.
