Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- ½ cup softened butter
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 8 ounces softened cream cheese
- ½ cup granulated sugar (for filling)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for filling)
- 1 cup chopped strawberries
- 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
- 2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for glaze)
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine 1 cup of warm milk with 2 ¼ teaspoons of active dry yeast and 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until bubbly.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine 4 cups of all-purpose flour, ½ cup of softened butter, 1 egg, and 1 teaspoon of salt. Pour in the yeast mixture and mix until a dough forms.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- In a bowl, mix 8 ounces of softened cream cheese, ½ cup of granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and 1 cup of chopped strawberries. Set aside.
- After the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a large rectangle (about 16×24 inches).
- Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Roll the dough tightly from the long side to form a log.
- Cut the log into 12 equal pieces and place them in a greased baking dish, cut side up. Cover and let them rise for about 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
- While the rolls are baking, mix 1 cup of powdered sugar with 2 tablespoons of milk and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract to create a smooth glaze.
- Once the rolls are out of the oven, let them cool for a few minutes before drizzling the glaze over the top.

Keywords: Make sure your milk is warm but not hot when activating the yeast. Spoon flour into your measuring cup and level it off to avoid using too much flour. For a more intense strawberry flavor, add a few drops of strawberry extract to your cream cheese mixture.
