Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 8 ounces egg noodles
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup carrots, julienned
  • 1 cup bell pepper, sliced (any color)
  • 1 cup green onions, chopped
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
  • Sesame seeds for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Start by bringing a large pot of salted water to a boil.
  2. Once the water is boiling, add the egg noodles and cook according to the package instructions, usually around 6-8 minutes, until they are al dente.
  3. While the noodles are cooking, stir occasionally to prevent them from sticking together.
  4. Once cooked, drain the noodles in a colander and rinse them under cold water to stop the cooking process. Set aside.
  5. In a large skillet or wok, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
  6. Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, or until the beef is browned and cooked through. Drain any excess fat if necessary.
  7. Once the beef is cooked, add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté for about 2-3 minutes until the onion becomes translucent and fragrant.
  8. Add the julienned carrots and sliced bell pepper to the skillet. Stir-fry the vegetables with the beef for another 3-4 minutes until they are tender but still crisp.
  9. If you like a bit of heat, sprinkle in the red pepper flakes at this stage.
  10. In a small bowl, combine the soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, ground ginger, and black pepper. Whisk these ingredients together until well blended.
  11. Pour the sauce mixture over the beef and vegetable mixture in the skillet. Stir well to ensure everything is evenly coated with the sauce.
  12. Let the mixture simmer for about 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  13. Add the cooked egg noodles to the skillet with the beef and vegetable mixture.
  14. Gently toss the noodles with the beef and vegetables, ensuring that the noodles are well coated with the sauce.
  15. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, allowing the noodles to heat through and absorb some of the sauce flavors.
  16. Stir in the chopped green onions, reserving a few for garnish.
  17. Once everything is well combined and heated through, remove the skillet from the heat.
  18. Transfer the Mongolian ground beef noodles to a large serving platter or individual bowls.
  19. If desired, sprinkle sesame seeds over the top for an added crunch and visual appeal.
  20. Garnish with the reserved green onions for a pop of color and freshness.
  21. Serve immediately while hot, and enjoy your delicious homemade Mongolian ground beef noodles!

Notes

  • Feel free to customize the vegetables based on your preference or what you have on hand.
  • For a vegetarian version, substitute ground beef with tofu or tempeh and use vegetable broth instead of soy sauce.
