Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef
- 8 ounces egg noodles
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup carrots, julienned
- 1 cup bell pepper, sliced (any color)
- 1 cup green onions, chopped
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
- Sesame seeds for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Start by bringing a large pot of salted water to a boil.
- Once the water is boiling, add the egg noodles and cook according to the package instructions, usually around 6-8 minutes, until they are al dente.
- While the noodles are cooking, stir occasionally to prevent them from sticking together.
- Once cooked, drain the noodles in a colander and rinse them under cold water to stop the cooking process. Set aside.
- In a large skillet or wok, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, or until the beef is browned and cooked through. Drain any excess fat if necessary.
- Once the beef is cooked, add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté for about 2-3 minutes until the onion becomes translucent and fragrant.
- Add the julienned carrots and sliced bell pepper to the skillet. Stir-fry the vegetables with the beef for another 3-4 minutes until they are tender but still crisp.
- If you like a bit of heat, sprinkle in the red pepper flakes at this stage.
- In a small bowl, combine the soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, ground ginger, and black pepper. Whisk these ingredients together until well blended.
- Pour the sauce mixture over the beef and vegetable mixture in the skillet. Stir well to ensure everything is evenly coated with the sauce.
- Let the mixture simmer for about 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
- Add the cooked egg noodles to the skillet with the beef and vegetable mixture.
- Gently toss the noodles with the beef and vegetables, ensuring that the noodles are well coated with the sauce.
- Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, allowing the noodles to heat through and absorb some of the sauce flavors.
- Stir in the chopped green onions, reserving a few for garnish.
- Once everything is well combined and heated through, remove the skillet from the heat.
- Transfer the Mongolian ground beef noodles to a large serving platter or individual bowls.
- If desired, sprinkle sesame seeds over the top for an added crunch and visual appeal.
- Garnish with the reserved green onions for a pop of color and freshness.
- Serve immediately while hot, and enjoy your delicious homemade Mongolian ground beef noodles!
Notes
- Feel free to customize the vegetables based on your preference or what you have on hand.
- For a vegetarian version, substitute ground beef with tofu or tempeh and use vegetable broth instead of soy sauce.
