Scale
  • 1 box of chocolate cake mix (15.25 oz)
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1/2 cup of vegetable oil
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup of creamy peanut butter
  • 1 cup of powdered sugar
  • 1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup of chopped Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups (about 68 cups)
  • 1 cup of chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
  • 1/2 cup of milk chocolate chips (for topping)
  • 1/2 cup of whipped cream (for serving, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan with non-stick spray or butter.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, water, vegetable oil, and eggs. Mix on medium speed until smooth, about 2 minutes.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix together the creamy peanut butter and powdered sugar until it forms a thick paste.
  4. Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips and chopped Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups into the chocolate cake batter. Add nuts if using.
  5. Pour half of the chocolate cake batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly.
  6. Dollop spoonfuls of the peanut butter mixture over the chocolate batter and gently spread it out.
  7. Pour the remaining chocolate cake batter over the peanut butter layer, spreading it gently to cover completely.
  8. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes.
  10. Melt the 1/2 cup of milk chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl, heating in 30-second intervals until smooth.
  11. Drizzle the melted milk chocolate over the top of the cake.
  12. Sprinkle additional chopped Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups on top if desired.
  13. Let the cake cool completely before slicing into squares.
  14. Serve warm or at room temperature, topped with whipped cream if desired.
  15. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or in the refrigerator for up to a week. Freeze individual slices wrapped tightly for longer storage.
