Description

Indulge in the delightful Soft Maple Cookies With Brown Butter Icing, featuring a soft, chewy texture infused with the comforting essence of maple syrup. Topped with rich and nutty brown butter icing, these cookies are a perfect treat for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened unsalted butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Add in the maple syrup and egg, mixing until well combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the cookies soft.
  6. Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, drop rounded balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. The centers will look underbaked, but they'll firm up as they cool.
  8. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. In a small saucepan, melt 1/2 cup of unsalted butter over medium heat. Cook, stirring frequently, until the butter turns a golden brown and has a nutty aroma, about 5-7 minutes. Be careful not to burn it!
  10. Remove the saucepan from heat and let the brown butter cool slightly.
  11. In a mixing bowl, combine the sifted powdered sugar, cooled brown butter, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and creamy. If the icing is too thick, add a teaspoon of milk or water at a time until you reach your desired consistency.
  12. Once the cookies are completely cooled, drizzle or spread the brown butter icing on top of each cookie. Let it set before serving.

Keywords: Chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking to help the cookies hold their shape better. Don’t overbake; keep an eye on them and take them out when the edges are just golden. Experiment with add-ins like chocolate chips or nuts for added texture.
