Ingredients
Scale
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup powdered sugar, sifted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened unsalted butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
- Add in the maple syrup and egg, mixing until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the cookies soft.
- Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, drop rounded balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. The centers will look underbaked, but they'll firm up as they cool.
- Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- In a small saucepan, melt 1/2 cup of unsalted butter over medium heat. Cook, stirring frequently, until the butter turns a golden brown and has a nutty aroma, about 5-7 minutes. Be careful not to burn it!
- Remove the saucepan from heat and let the brown butter cool slightly.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the sifted powdered sugar, cooled brown butter, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and creamy. If the icing is too thick, add a teaspoon of milk or water at a time until you reach your desired consistency.
- Once the cookies are completely cooled, drizzle or spread the brown butter icing on top of each cookie. Let it set before serving.

Keywords: Chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking to help the cookies hold their shape better. Don’t overbake; keep an eye on them and take them out when the edges are just golden. Experiment with add-ins like chocolate chips or nuts for added texture.
